Originally produced by Columbia Bicycles in 1940, the Columbia Compax folding bike was the first of it’s kind. The collapsible design was ideal for anyone tight on space, since it could be easily transported and stored practically anywhere. It was even tested by the US military during WWII to be used by paratroopers, due to it’s portability. This modern day reproduction has all the features and nostalgic charm of the original 1940’s models- with state-of-the-art mechanical advances to ensure this bike is easy to maneuver and built to last.

The concept of a foldable bike was genius. Due to my limited storage, this bike works perfectly for me. I’m a casual cyclist and this bikes meets all of my needs. I also have friends that are cycling enthusiast and they were also impressed with this bike. The height is perfect for women with longer legs. I would highly recommend this bike for novice like me, to the most seasoned cyclist.

The shipping was fast. I put it together quite easily, but not skilled in adjustments, so I will have it tuned up by a local bike shop. I haven’t ridden in a long time, but the bike has a good feel. My only problem is I can’t seem to locate a rear carrier for a pannier that I have. I Could use some advise as to which one is compatible with this model. I would rather buy it online and let the bike shop install it.

I have had this for almost 2 weeks and I’ve tried riding it daily – so that I can give an accurate review. I am not a very mechanical person, but the directions were very easy to understand and I had this assembled, tested, and went for my first ride within 22 minutes. The quick release handle on the seat is awesome, it makes raising and lowering the seat wonderfully easy – which is a plus since my husband and I are very different heights. The quick connect wheel and the way the bike folds makes an easy transition to from hauling the bike to actually riding it. The bike stays nicely compacted and then folds out to riding capabilities within seconds – and the best part is you need no tools in doing so! This is a smooth bike to ride and would be recommended for anyone that needs or wants a compact bike to haul in their small car/suv – or just wants to save space without a bike rack. Definitely a 5-Star bike!

    I really love this bike!

    Pros:
-It folds in half! With the push of a small pin and opening a clamp the bike folds on a large hinge. It fits in the trunk of my car! It does take quite a bit of muscle to do, but I think it will get easier with more use. The hinge seems very sturdy and well made.
-The bike frame is solid. Since it folds it only has one main bar, it is wide and very durable. It is compax because it folds, not because its small and delicate.
-The seat has a spring/shock absorber which makes riding on rough terrain easier on the backside.
    -Gears shift very smoothly
-Smooth ride, coasts for a long time.

    Cons:
    -Made in China
-Heavy, while this is good because it means the bike is sturdy, I was surprised at the weight
-When folding the bike the handlebars stay perpendicular to the tires unless you also remove the front tire. It would be nice to have a release feature to allow the handles to turn parallel to the rest of the frame. Minor details, but it would make wedging it in a car easier.

Overall a really nice bike with some great features!

Columbia bikes sent me this bike for review since I like in a small apartment I was excited to try it out! The foldable aspect is a must if you’re in tight quarters and it’s very simple to fold away. The gear system I found very easy to use and the ride was smooth. It’s a good fit for casual to enthusiast trail riders as well as a commuter if you’re like me and rather ride your bike to run errands or get around town.
